Is
a Golden Retriever for You?
Golden Retriever's were bred to be working dogs, the AKC has them in
the sporting group. This is a high energy dog breed, and need lots of
exercise. At a young age they need to keep busy if they have nothing to
do they will find something on their own, which is usually chewing up
your best pair of shoes. So you want to keep them occupied. Golden
Retriever's make great seeing eye, and rescue dogs, because of there
natural desire to stay busy.
This large, muscular dog, weighs around fifty-five to seventy-five
pounds and stands at twenty-one to twenty-four inches tall at the
shoulders. This breed has a large skull, which could explain why they
are one of the most intelligent dog breeds. Golden Retriever coats will
range from dark honey colored gold to a lighter gold that is just about
white.
The Golden Retriever is known to be good with children. But as with any
large dog breed they usually don't relies their own size and can
accidentally knock kids down. Dog obedience training is something you
should consider. They are a very intelligent breed and can learn fast.
They also are known to love to dig, so if you leave them in the back
yard, make sure you have something to keep them occupied or when they
get bored they will dig a very large hole. (Click

Feeding
the Golden Retriever can be an expensive undertaking. These dogs love
to eat, and with the high energy level they will burn it off. Always
check with your veterinarian to find out what kind of diet they should
be on. This will help in the development of the dog.
Grooming the coats of the Golden Retriever should be done daily. They
have a long thick coat the will tangle. With Frequent grooming you will
also help in the shedding of their coats, this means less hair around
the house. Also be sure to check for ticks if the dog has been outside
for any length of time. Taking this dog breed to a professional groomer
one a month to get all the knots out is a great way to keep them
looking and feeling good.

Quick Tip #1
Make
sure you can go to the dog breeders house or where they keep the
puppies. If they refuse, walk away from that breeder. They may have a
dirty place and the puppies are not properly cared for. Its better to
not take a chance then to have to deal with the heartbreak of a dog
that has health issues.
