Is
a Rottweiler the Right Breed for You?
Are you looking for a dog that is intelligent, devoted and protective
of it's owners? They the Rottweiler just may be the dog for you. They
were bred to be versatile working dogs, that guard their families and
homes. Also do very well in agility training, and when home with their
owners think they are a cute little lapdog.
Rottweiler's are a large and muscular breed. They will weigh from
eighty-five to one hundred thirty pounds, and stand twenty-two to
twenty-seven inches tall. With a large head and soulful brown eyes. A
Rottwieler has a black and brown short coat.
The Rottweiler is in the working group in the American Kennel Club
list. They are often used as guard dogs, unfortunately some owners will
train them to me more aggressive. This has lead to the reputation as a
dangerous breed. If raised correctly you will find this breed to be
more puppy than demon. They make a great family pet, better with older
children. They are a large dog and truly don't know there own size. (Click

As
with most large breed dogs they do not do well in an apartment. This is
a large powerful dog and need room to get out and run, owners with a
nice back yard would be best for this breed. They will need lots of
exercise, taking them on a daily walk around the neighborhood to burn
off some energy.
The Rottweiler is an intelligent breed, and do very well with training.
Starting them with some kind of obedience training at a young age will
help the owner control these large powerful dog. If the owner teaches
the Rottweiler that they are in charge with positive training then they
will be taking the dog for a walk and not the other way around.
I’m sure you have seen an owner being pulled down the street
by their dog, don't let that happen to you. They take well to training
and respond well to direction, this is why they do well in agility
training courses.
Food cost will be on the high end with this size dog. They have a lot
of energy and will burn up a lot of calories. So you should figure on
buying a lot of dog food for this breed. As will all dogs you should
consult with your vet to get a proper diet plan for your dog.
Rottweiler's have a short coat, so grooming this breed is not a hard
chore. Set aside about one day a week to brush your dog to keep there
coat looking shiny. Check to make sure there nails are not too long and
have them cut every few months.

Quick Tip #1
Make
sure you can go to the dog breeders house or where they keep the
puppies. If they refuse, walk away from that breeder. They may have a
dirty place and the puppies are not properly cared for. Its better to
not take a chance then to have to deal with the heartbreak of a dog
that has health issues.

step that many owners never think of when choosing the correct dog
breed for them is grooming needs. Short hair dogs will not need as much
time to groom, while long hair dogs will need much more time, up to an
hour a day. Make sure you know what your in for before you chose the
dog for your family.
